Ford Mustang Mach-E Charging

Ford Mustang Mach-E Charging

Ford has worked hard on Mustang Mach-E Charging Solutions:

Ford is perhaps a little late to the ‘EV Party’. It has only just announced its first real new EV, the Mustang Mach-E.  The company has also signaled its intention to announce others during 2020. In fact, Ford plans to invest $11.5 Billion in electrified vehicles through 2022.  Ford may have been a little behind on the vehicle EV manufacturing front, but it’s ahead in other areas.  It has worked hard to ensure that it has real answers when it comes to Mustang Mach-E charging. According to Ford USA, “Ford will make it easier for customers to find a place to charge”, when the company starts delivering new models in 2020!

Covering all the Charging Bases:

Ford have done well to put in place a comprehensive framework for charging the Mustang Mach-E.  This effort will certainly benefit their future customers. Their strategy includes both at-home charging options as well as streamlined access public charging facilities.

The New Ford Mobile Charger

Ford claim that they aim to simplify EV charging by “making EV home charging as easy as charging a smartphone, which is where most all-electric vehicle drivers currently charge.” There are a number of ways that they plan to go about this. Firstly, every new Ford all-electric vehicle will be delivered with the Ford Mobile Charger. This device can be used to charge from the standard 120v electrical outlet that customers will certainly have in their garage. This socket can deliver approximately 3 miles of driving time per charging hour.

Most importantly however this same Ford Mobile Charger can also charge at 22 miles per charging hour. To do this it must be plugged into the 240v dryer socket that is already installed in million of homes in the USA! This last option will give new Ford EV owners access to Level 2, 240v fast charging at home for very low cost. Not all Ford EV customers will have a 240v dryer socket already, installed. So, Ford have teamed up with Amazon Home Services to simplify the installation of a new 240V circuit.

Public Charging Options

To round out its charging framework, Ford USA have also announced a partnership with Greenlots.  This will provide new Ford EV owners with access to more than 12,000 charging stations – called the FordPass Charging Network. As part of this network, Ford EV buyers will also have access to Electrify America DC Fast Chargers. These are chargers that can add around 47 miles of charge in as little at 10 minutes.

Ford will have Broad Options for Mustang Mach-E Charging

Ford has gone to quite some lengths to ensure that its EV buyers will have access to a broad array of charging options.  Most pleasing of all is that Ford has thought to include a ‘mobile’ charger as standard equipment. This charger can connect to the 240v dryer plug already found in so many homes to enable Level 2 charging. This is sure to reduce the cost of owning an EV for Ford customers!
